Mabel Ann Helseth, 90

Mabel Ann Helseth, 90, died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006, at Heritage Place in Kalispell.

She was born Aug. 22, 1915, in Bigfork, the daughter of George and Eliza Ann (Hilling) Wells.

Mabel met and married Carter J. Helseth; the marriage was performed in Bigfork on Feb. 22, 1936.

After the birth of their only child, Jim, Mabel quit working and became a full-time mother and homemaker. She enjoyed sewing her own clothes, and loved cooking feasts for the family. She enjoyed her travels to Hawaii and Alaska.

She was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church. Her hobbies included singing in the church choir, music of many types, ballroom dancing, sewing, swimming, playing bridge with her bridge club, picnics, family reunions, cooking and canning.

Mabel loved the Flathead Valley, swimming in Flathead Lake, hiking, picking huckleberries and going on picnics. She and her husband moved South after his retirement with the U.S. Forest Service to Yuma, Ariz.

Mabel was preceded in death by her husband in 1991; four brothers, Arthur, Robert, Dick, and Wyman "Bill" Wells; and two infant sisters.

She is survived by her son, Jim Helseth, and wife, Patti, of Great Falls; and brother, George Wells, and wife, Doris, of Hayden, Idaho.

Memorial services for Mabel Helseth will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at Johnson Mortuary Chapel, with Pastor Ray Davis officiating. Urn burial will be in the C. E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
