More than a year of fact-finding for a downtown master plan in Whitefish culminates Feb. 2 with a public hearing.

The Whitefish Downtown Business District Master Plan, shepherded by the Heart of Whitefish and city staff, and drafted by Portland consulting firm Crandall Arambula, is poised to be adopted as an amendment to the current city-county master plan. The hearing, at 6 p.m. at Whitefish City Hall, is the first step in the adoption process.

Formulating the plan involved a series of meetings and several public workshops and presentations. Its purpose is to provide a guiding framework for strategic investment and decision-making that will guide downtown Whitefish for the next 20 years and beyond.

After a public hearing and recommendation by the Planning Board, a City Council meeting to consider final adoption will be scheduled.

Free summary sheets are available at Whitefish City Hall and at the Planning and Building Department. The document can be viewed at those locations and the Whitefish Public Library.
