A. Kathryne 'Katie' Greig, 96

| January 14, 2006 1:00 AM

A. Kathryne "Katie" Greig, 96, died Dec. 14, 2005, at her home in Kalispell.

Kathryne was born in Helena to Oliver and Margaret Gordon. While she was still very young, the family moved to a farm near Valier. Katie's dad was a wheat farmer and her mother practiced the art of midwifery. It was during this time that her love of horses began. During the winter her mother and the two kids lived in town to go to school. Katie graduated from Valier High School and entered Great Falls Deaconess School of Nursing.

She settled in Kalispell where she and her husband Richard owned and operated Greig's Dairy. My mother's philosophy was "bloom where you're planted" and she devoted herself to homemaking and motherhood.

She continued her interest in horses and rode with the Kalispell Saddle Club. She skated at the roller rink at the fairgrounds. She volunteered with the Gray Ladies and worked for the election board. She was a member of the Kalispell Junior Women's Club which became Oro y Plata and was a charter member of the Two Mile Drive Sewing Club. She was a tireless worker in the Epworth Methodist Church.

Kathryne loved to travel and she and her husband took many pleasant trips - though not as many as she would have liked.

Katie was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Alpheus; an infant brother, John; her husband, Richard; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Gordon and Arminta Greig Turner; and her son-in-law, John Hern.

Kathryne is survived by her daughter, Peggy Hern; grandson, Jon and Patty; granddaughter, Susan and Tom; five great-grandchildren, Greig, Jamie, Kristen, Casey and Patrick; a niece, Nancy Gordon Gardipee in California; two nephews, Rich Mulcahy of Oregon and Mike Mulcahy in Manning, Alberta; numerous cousins; and a host of dear, dear friends.

"We all loved her and she will be seriously missed by all whose lives she has touched."

"We won't look for you Mom 'cuz you won't be here. You're spending your time with Jesus this year."

No services are planned at this time.

A memorial will be held at a later date.

Donations may be made to the children's charity of your choice.
