Melvin Wiley Myers, 89

Melvin Wiley Myers, 89, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006, at Immanuel Lutheran Home in Kalispell.

He was born July 14, 1916, on a homestead north of Columbus, in Stillwater County, to Ira and Myrtle (Tucker) Myers. Mel graduated from Columbus High School, Class of 1934.

In 1943, he married Wilma Jordan in Kalispell, while on 'leave' from the U.S. Coast Guard. On Nov. 27, 1993, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary aboard the cruiser ship Celebration in the Western Caribbean.

After the war, he returned to Kalispell where he was owner of Northwestern Montana Realty Co., and then traveled across the state of Montana for several insurance companies as their special agent.

In later years, Mel and his wife operated Jordan's Cafe in Kalispell until 1978, when it was sold and they retired.

He was a member of Christ Church Episcopal, a life member of Kalispell Elks Lodge, several Masonic orders, Algeria Shrine Temple of Helena, American Legion and life member of the VFW.

He enjoyed collecting coins, flower gardening and spent the last several years working on his family history and genealogy.

Mel was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, J. Ray Myers; and one sister, Ila Fossel.

He is survived by his wife, Wilma Myers, of Kalispell; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Melvin Myers will be in April at the Christ Church Episcopal in Kalispell with burial afterward at C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery. There will be no visitation at this time. Notice will be given in April with a time and date.
