Moose Lodge wants gaming machines back

| February 15, 2006 1:00 AM

Members of the Whitefish Moose Lodge will make their case Thursday to restore gaming machines at the lodge.

The Whitefish City-County Planning Board will hold a public hearing to consider an amendment to city laws that would allow four machines in certain zoning districts.

Last year Moose Lodge members asked the council what it would take to get gaming machines reinstalled at the lodge on West 10th Street. The facility is a legally nonconforming use in a residential zoning district and once had gaming machines.

The machines were removed from the Moose Lodge a few years ago by the vendor, and in the meantime the city created a casino zone that prevented the lodge from reinstalling more machines.

In other business, Akers Hospitality Inc. wants to create a three-lot subdivision off U.S. 93 South. The Whitefish Lakeshore Protection Committee is asking to revise the definition of lake frontage.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. Thursday at Whitefish City Hall.
