John J. Foss, 90, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006, at Brendan House in Kalispell.

He was born May 17, 1916, in Landa, N.D., to Johnny and Bertina (Dalsing) Foss. When John was very young, he moved with his family to frontier Saskatchewan, where he received his early education.

He worked construction on the Fort Peck Dam, and after moving to Big Sandy met Alma 'Dicky' Jappe. They were married in Kalispell on Dec. 16, 1942.

John worked in the shipyards in Seattle and Seward, Alaska. He also fished for salmon in Bristol Bay and hunted moose and caribou in Alaska and Canada. He loved the great outdoors. His last construction job was the Glasgow Air Force Base. John built the Foss Trailer Court in Kalispell that now is called the Alpine Court.

After Alma's retirement from the Equity Supply Store in Kalispell, the couple moved to Eureka, where John bought and sold real estate until his death.

John was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack, Melvin and Alvin; and two sisters, Rose and Gudrun.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Alma; two sisters, Ruby of Big Sandy, and Myrtle Brown and her husband, Bob, of San Diego; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at a later date in Livingston.

Johnson Mortuary and Crematory is caring for John's family.
