Flathead's Iverson medals at Great Falls Invitational

GREAT FALLS - Larry Iverson used a 1-over-par 72 on the final day of play at the Great Falls Invitational golf tournament Tuesday to claim medalist honors and help Flathead High School to a third-place finish.
It was the first outing of the fall season.
"He made a very solid par on the last hole and that was enough to win it," said FHS coach Alice Ritzman.
Iverson opened with a 74 on Monday at Meadow Lark Country Club, which tied him for second place, a shot behind Geoff Oliphant of Billings Senior.
Oliphant turned in a 77 on the final day, at Eagle Falls Golf Course, slipping into a third-place tie.
Jake Hedge of Billings West, finished second and one shot back.
Hedge and Iverson were tied heading into the last hole.
Flathead wound up with a 624 score, two shots behind runner-up Billings Senior. Billings West took top honors with a 607.
The Braves improved by eight shots as a team on the second day as four players broke 80. In addition ot Iverson, Connor Tanberg shot 78 and Jaden Treece and Ben Piersall both came in with 79s.
"I am more than satisfied," said Ritzman of the boys.
"I think they have a real clear picture of what they need to do now. I told them, they don't have to be spectacular, just be solid, hit the fairways, hit the greens and give yourself opportunities. They have tons more potential."
Whitefish improved by 11 shots from Day 1 to Day 2 and jumped up two places in the final standings to fourth. The Bulldogs were sixth after first-day action.
Sam Krause finished with a 71, a 10-shot improvement from Monday, to place sixth overall for the Bulldogs. Teammate Derek Denning tied for ninth. He shot a 79 at Eagle Falls.
In the girls competition Flathead, 797, and Whitefish, 801, placed 10th and 11th, respectively.
The Bravettes were led by Brooke Sampson, 93-95-188; and Whitefish by Chelsea Ray, 83-95-178, and Quinn Micklewright, 103-97-200.
Billings West went wire-to-wire to take team honors on the girls side with a 683 total.
Alyssa Biskupiak of Helena Capital took medalist honors, winning by six shots.
