Wolfe wins Canadian American Shootout, Elliott second

Corey Wolfe of Pablo took the lead with 20 laps remaining, holding off runner-up Tim Elliott of Creston, B.C., and third-place finisher Bodie Morton of Kalispell, to win the Canadian American Shootout 150 at Montana Raceway Park last Saturday.

Mark Owens of Kalispell and rookie driver Alex Lessor were running first and second, respectively, for much of the race, however a mishap on the 130th lap sent both drivers to the rear of the field.

Micah Sampson finished fourth and Lessor worked his way back up to place fifth.

This was the first action for the Super Late Models at the raceway since the 16th annual Montana 200 last month.

Owens posted the fast time for the night, 13:091 seconds, just a bit slower than his effort at the Montana 200.

After qualifying times, a rain delay and getting the track got dried out and ready for racing, track officials opted for a schedule change, having the Super Late Models go first.

Up first was the B Trophy Dash with Garth Hazlehurst crossing the finish line first. Agni Howell won the A Trophy Dash, Gary Lister the Odd Heat and Billy Salmonsen took his first win of the season in the Even Heat. The heat races determined the line up for the main event.

The Flathead Legends were also on the race card with Jake Grosswiler turning in the fast time, 14:512, and taking top honors in the A Heat and main event, which was shortened because of cold weather.

Brad Sentell took the win in the Trophy Dash and Darrell Buckingham of Calgary won the B Heat.

The Hobby Stocks saw 2005 champion Jed Shue have the fast time, 15:23.

Corey Pilsch took his first win in the Trophy Dash, followed that with a second in the heat race and then finished off the night by winning his first main event win of the season.

In the Bandoleros division, Christopher Forrest was the main event winner with Mike Hilliker taking second.

There will be no racing this weekend because of the Northwest Montana Fair. Racing will resume on the 26th with the Dave Parkisson Memorial. In action will be the Bombers, Super Late Models, Limited Sportsman and Compacts.
