L.T.P. 'Linc' Engel, 80

Lincoln Thomas Powers Engel passed away July 30, 2006, quietly at his home in Evergreen of natural causes. Linc was born in Missoula on Feb. 11, 1926, to Vernie Blanche Powers and Anton William Engel. He joined older brother Anton "Tony" Jr. He attended school in Great Falls.

On Jan. 17, 1944, Linc enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in Butte, after graduating early from Great Falls High School. Linc was proud of his military service. He served in the Pacific Theater with the Second Marines in World War II and the Seventh Marines in Korea. He was discharged honorably three times, the last being Nov. 16, 1951. He attained the rank of sergeant and was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery in combat along with many other military citations.

He married Alice May Hommel on Nov. 14, 1952, in Missoula. After raising their three boys, they later divorced.

Linc was also proud of the fact that he, his brother, Anton Jr., and all three of his sons attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He is still known by numerous Scouts as Scoutmaster of Troop 76 In Kalispell during the early 1970s.

His favorite times were the family camping trips, where he always tried to get the whole family together each summer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Tony.

Survivors include his sons, Jeff and Mary Sue of Billings, and their children, Hannah, Cavin, and Emily; Jerry of Kalispell and his children, Alissa and Kyle; and Jay and Lynn of Kalispell, and their son, Jordan; and their mother, Alice, of Kalispell.

Linc spent his retirement years with his favorite companion, his dog Boo, with daily trips to the river.

Military graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, at Glacier Memorial Gardens. Family and friends will share his life at 1 p.m. at Jay and Lynn's house after the service.
