A new exhibition featuring the works of 25 Montana-based clay artists will open at the Hockaday Museum of Art on Thursday, Feb. 15 from 5-7 p.m. “Beyond Craft: The Art of Ceramics,” will be on display at the museum through April 7.
The participating artists come from all over the state to present both wall and pedestal pieces. The artists include David Regan, a Flathead Valley local; Beth Lo of Missoula; Sarah Justice of Great Falls; Robert Harrison of Helena; and David Hiltner of Billings.
These artists take clay beyond its utilitarian functions and use it as a means of expression. From whimsical and playful to thoughtful social commentary, these works represent our state’s deep connection to contemporary ceramics. Many of the artists featured are also members of the Montana Clay Society and have worked with the renowned Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts in Helena.
The Hockaday Museum of Art is located in the cultural district of downtown Kalispell at 302 Second Ave East. The museum is a private nonprofit organization, open year-round, Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, please visit www.HockadayMuseum.org or call 755-5268.
