Michael “Dane” Shackleford, 48, passed away from an accident in Coos Bay, Oregon, on Oct. 21, 2017.

Dane was born June 30, 1969, in Oakland, California, to Rachel Singer and Mike Shackleford.

From a young age Dane has a passion for building stuff. This passion eventually earned him a Certificate of Master Mechanic. He used his skills to build a couple different prize-winning muscle cars — a ’71 Chevelle and ’71 Nova.

He also used his special skills to teach others to be better mechanics. He wasn’t always easy on them. He wouldn’t give them the answer to the problem; he would help them figure it out. He was admired by his co-workers.

Dane went our of his way to help others in their time of need, spending his lunch driving for hours to help others, asking nothing in return. This generosity earned him many friends.

Dane had a special love for trains and was an avid collector of train sets. He would plan vacations around train museums.

He loved the outdoors, skiing, hiking, hunting, boating, snowmobiling, and anything with a motor. He loved to travel, especially to Montana.

He also had a passion for off-roading. He attended the “King of Hammers” where he used his talent to help rebuild a transmission to help his friend complete the race. He was racing his Jeep on the beach in Coos Bay when an unfortunate accident claimed his life.

Dane loved off-roading and was doing something he loved when he passed.

“In the end it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.”

Dane is survived by three daughters, Molly Ann Larsen, 22, of California; Taylor Shackleford, 18, of Victor, Montana; and Vanessa Taylor, 13, of Mosier, Oregon; mother Rachel and Michael Singer of Olney; father Mike Shackleford of Klamath Falls, Oregon; sisters, Tonia and Les Fenster of Kalispell, Michelle Shackleford of Bend, Oregon, and Cindy Shackleford of Klamath Falls; and many aunts, uncles and cousins and friends who will miss his humor and goodwill.

The last ride was a good one. We know you are up there on an everlasting Jeep ride. Love you…

A memorial service will be held next summer in Olney.
