Leon Anthony Hoerner, 69

| March 25, 2020 1:00 AM

Leon Hoerner, 69, was taken up by the angels on March 18 at 12:27 p.m. while in his home, surrounded by loved ones and while looking into his son’s eyes.

Leon was born to Anton “Tony” and Delores Hoerner of Columbia Falls on Nov. 13, 1950. He served as an altar boy at his family church, St. Richard Catholic Church in Columbia Falls, where he also attended high school until he left school to serve his country during the Vietnam War, where he served as a squad machine gunner in the United States Marine Corps from Aug. 5, 1968, until he was honorably discharged. He took great pride and honor in being “Marine strong.”

He is survived by brother Alan and wife Terry of Arizona; sister Susan and husband/friend Don Salminen of Columbia Falls; as well as his three children: Angel Hoerner of Columbia Falls, Marc and Nikki Hoerner of Columbia Falls, Janna Hansen and husband Matt of Washington; and his many grandchildren: Jayden, Blake, Chase and Dawson of Columbia Falls, Andy and Paxton of Wash-ington, and Krystina, Kytrina, twins Karrie and Kimberly, all of Coeur d’alene, Idaho; as well as numerous nieces/nephews.

There will be a public viewing at Columbia Falls Mortuary on Thursday, March 26, from 12 to 2 p.m. followed by a family only (due to coronavirus) graveside service officiated by family friend and St. Richard Deacon Doug Cordier, with a full military honors send off. Once the coronavirus situation is safe, there will be an announcement made with the date/time of his memorial/celebration of life service.

He is and will continue to be deeply missed by his family. His passing was a most beautiful expression of God’s love and mercy. He left this earth in the same manner he lived upon it. Go big or go home he always use to tell us. He did both.
