No. 26888 Request for Public Comment Salish Good Resource Management Project USDA Forest Service Flathead National Forest Tally Lake Ranger District Flathead County, Montana The Tally Lake Ranger District of the Flathead National Forest has released an environmental assessment for the Salish Good Resource Management Project and invites comments. The project is located northwest of Whitefish, Montana. The project includes activities that improve forest stand conditions, provide commercial and personal-use wood products to the local economy, reduce hazardous fuels, and improve water quality and aquatic species habitat. The environmental assessment provides additional details on the project's purpose and proposed activities. The environmental assessment, along with other project documents, is available online at https://www.fs.usda.gov/project/?project=47257. Comments will be accepted for thirty days following the publication of the legal notice in the newspaper of record, the Daily Inter Lake. The publication date in the newspaper of record is the exclusive means for calculating the comment period. The regulations prohibit extending the length of the comment period. Specific written comments that are within the scope of the project, have a direct relationship to the project, and include supporting reasons for the responsible official to consider are encouraged (36 CFR 218.2). Only individuals or entities who submit timely and specific written comments about this project during this or another public comment period established by the responsible official will be eligible to file an objection (36 CFR 218.2). Other eligibility requirements are defined by 36 CFR 218.25(a)(3) and include name, postal address, title of the project and signature or other verification of identity upon request and the identity of the individual or entity who authored the comments. Individual members of an entity must submit their own individual comments in order to have eligibility to object as an individual. A timely submission will be determined as outlined in 36 CFR 218.25(a)(4). It is the responsibility of the sender to ensure timely receipt of any comments submitted. Comments are encouraged to be submitted electronically to comments-northern-flathead-tally-lake@usda.gov in rich text (.rtf), Word (.doc or .docx), or .pdf formats, with "Salish Good Project" in the subject line. They can also be submitted via U.S. Postal Service to Tally Lake Ranger Station, Attn: Salish Good Project, 650 Wolf Pack Way, Kalispell MT 59901; via fax to 406-758-3537; or in person to the Tally Lake Ranger District (Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding holidays). Comments submitted via U.S. Postal Service must be postmarked by the end of the comment period. Only those who submit timely and specific written comments will have eligibility to file an objection under 36 CFR 218.8. Issues raised in objections must be based on previously submitted timely, specific written comments regarding the project, unless based on new information that may arise after the designated comment period. Comments must also meet the information requirements in 36 CFR 218.25(a)(3). Information provided will become part of the public record and may be released under the Freedom of Information Act.
