Glacier tabs Moore as cross country coach

Glacier High School athletic director Mark Dennehy on Wednesday announced the hiring of Cody Moore as the Wolfpack’s newest cross country coach.

Moore, 25, takes over for Jacob Deitz, who stepped down after five seasons.

“Cody brings amazing enthusiasm and passion for running to the position,” Dennehy said in a release. “He has a clear plan for the development of runners and we look forward to his leadership.”

Moore has been a registered dietician at Kalispell Regional Medical Center since last summer, and was to be a volunteer assistant track coach this spring before the season was canceled for COVID-19.

The Alabama native ran for Division II Shorter University in Rome, Georgia, before helping coach track and cross country at Heritage Christian Academy in Fort Collins, Colorado. Heritage won four Class 1A track and field championships and one cross country state title while Moore was there.

Glacier’s boys were seventh at the State AA championships last year, while the Wolfpack’s Simon Hill won the individual title. The rest of Glacier’s scorers at state are coming back this fall.

“Pretty young team,” Moore said. “A lot of potential there – I’m pretty excited.”

Glacier’s girls had four sophomores and a junior among its top six runners in 2019 while finishing ninth as well.

Deitz’s boys’ teams were consistently in the top half of Class AA, and took home trophies in 2016 (third) and 2017 (second). His girls’ best finish was fourth in 2016. Annie Hill won the girls’ individual championship in 2015 for Glacier.

“We will certainly miss Jacob’s enjoyment for running,” Dennehy said. “He coached multiple state champions and brought home hardware. We appreciate all of Jacob’s work throughout his tenure.”
