‘Very good friend’ not very reliable

| June 2, 2020 1:00 AM

A man called the Whitefish Police Department after he allegedly sold his truck to “a very good friend” in exchange for a shotgun and $500. The friend apparently refused to pay the $500 after he received what he called a “junk truck.” The truck seller didn’t know what to do because all of their correspondence had taken place over Snapchat, so there was no record of their agreement.

Someone called to ask about swimming at City Beach.

An animal advocate called about a dog she “often” spots in a vehicle. An officer checked on the dog, which had a bed, food and water in a truck with its windows cracked. The officer felt the dog and the interior of the truck, which were both apparently “cool to the touch.” The officer also talked to the dog owner and determined “at this time there is not sufficient evidence of any crime.”

A “short male with [a] walking stick” allegedly asked to use someone’s phone, then stayed on the line for close to an hour. He wouldn’t end the call when he was asked, and he reportedly “became belligerent” with the person who lent him the phone.

A bystander said he was “uncomfortable with the situation” when he saw a man “yelling and spanking” a child in public. Officers apparently drove through the area several times but couldn’t find anyone matching the description of the people involved.

A woman said she was “having issues” with another woman who apparently took money from her. However, the caller wasn’t sure of the accused woman’s phone number or address to help police locate her. When asked for the address, all she could remember was she “thought it was something.”

Police checked on a woman accused of cruelty toward animals who had left her panting dog in a car with cracked windows. When officers arrived, she also received a citation for marijuana use and her drug paraphernalia was seized.

Someone was ticketed for illegally parking their trailer after they tried to move it and the frame broke. They promised someone was coming to weld the frame and then they would attempt to move it again.

A woman in her 60s fell and hit her head. She ended up losing consciousness, was having trouble speaking and was acting “combative.” She was dropped off at the emergency room.

A woman said she heard “someone doing construction somewhere” close to 11 p.m. She thought it was “too late for someone to be doing construction.” The construction worker was located and he promised to quiet down for the night.
