Be informed about the BLM agenda

| July 12, 2020 1:00 AM

I read with interest the recent article about a billboard put up in the valley promoting Black Lives Matter. I don’t have a single acquaintance who wasn’t sickened by George Floyd’s death at the hands of police. Black lives do matter. But the Inter Lake article, like many articles elsewhere, was silent on the goals of Black Lives Matter. One could easily get the impression that Black Lives Matter is merely an anti-racist organization promoting liberty and justice for all, regardless of skin color.

Instead, an examination of Black Lives Matter’s policy goals (from the BLM website’s “What We Believe” and the M4BL Vision Booklet) reveals a radical left manifesto. A sampling of specific goals includes (but is certainly not limited to):

-retroactive decriminalization of all drug and prostitution offenses

-voting rights for all, including illegal immigrants and those in prison

-an end to public jails, detention centers and prisons

-disrupting the nuclear family structure

-fostering a queer-affirming network

-guaranteed basic income for Black people

-divestment from fossil fuels

Whether these goals uniformly benefit Black lives is open to debate. Please, be informed before you give your support to the Black Lives Matter organization.
