Driver has a cow over roadside cattle

| July 4, 2020 1:00 AM

Three cows were reported to the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office because they were spotted on the edge of a highway, “just standing on the side of the road.”

A woman realized someone was using her vacation rental to scam visitors. She said multiple people had paid the scammer, then showed up to her property without an actual reservation to stay there.

A woman called to say her 15-year-old golden retriever collapsed on a trail while they were hiking and she couldn’t carry him out.

Someone complained about residents in a school bus setting off fireworks and littering. This turned out to be the eighth complaint against the school-bus-dweller in a one-month period. When the Sheriff’s Office contacted him, he claimed he “didn’t understand he was breaking the law” and he was told this is his final warning.

A woman was worried about a horse in a small pen that didn’t seem to be fed or given water for three days. However, the horse owner explained it is fed a bale of hay at night but it continually knocks over its water bucket and escapes from the pasture, so it was contained in the smaller pen. The owner also promised the horses would soon be moved to an area that will better accommodate their needs.

A man received a call from someone who claimed he was with the “narcotics division” in Polson and he needed $10,000 to release the man’s grandson from custody. However, the man contacted his grandson and realized this claim was a scam.

Someone driving by was concerned for the safety of some people sitting on the side of a road. The woman was apparently wearing a bikini top and the man was shirtless. It turned out their car had broken down and they were waiting for a ride.

A caller wanted to know “if it is legal to conceal carry wearing a mask because of all the COVID things going on right now.”

A man said his neighbor “thinks she owns the road.” She was apparently oiling the road in front of his house, which is a danger to him because of a health issue he has.

A woman believed residents of a trailer were “making sparkle bombs.” She said they set one off a few minutes before she called the Sheriff’s Office.

A daughter borrowed her mother’s car to go get a battery, and the mother became concerned when she didn’t return right away. The mother explained she had left $2,000 in cash in the car and the daughter had left her child in the mother’s care. However, the daughter returned and the mother said she no longer needed law enforcement’s assistance.
