Campaign to help nonprofits counter COVID-19 effects

| April 8, 2020 1:00 AM

In an effort to help nonprofits suffering operationally from the coronavirus outbreak, the Whitefish Community Foundation will participate in the global Day of Giving and Unity by hosting an online donation campaign for local charities in May.

The annual event will be a 28-hour campaign beginning at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5, and ending at noon on Wednesday, May 6. According to a press release, the foundation will offer a $1,000 match to participating nonprofits that raise a minimum of $2,000 or more in the campaign. The foundation is organizing the campaign and will offer it for free to participating charities in Flathead County and Eureka.

“The Day of Giving is a way to help nonprofits that are suffering from a loss of donations, cancellation of events, and for many, a surge on their programs,” said Linda Engh-Grady, president of the Whitefish Community Foundation. “By offering nonprofits a free campaign we hope to help them raise critical operating funds in a collective and united way.”

Nonprofits interested in participating in this day of giving can apply through the short application found on the Whitefish Community Foundation’s website. Nonprofits must apply by April 20 to be included in advertising, but applications to participate will close May 4, the day before the campaign launches, according to the press release.

The campaign will be offered as an online campaign and donations will also be accepted by phone. According to the press release, 100% of donations will go to the designated charities, minus any credit card fees, which donors will have the option to cover upon making their gift online.
