Wildkats break Broncs after slow start

HAMILTON – Three players scored 13 points each for Columbia Falls, and the Wildkats blitzed Hamilton from the second quarter on of a 56-32 non-league girls’ basketball win Saturday.

Maddie Robison, Hannah Schweikert and Josie Windauer each scored 13 points for Northwestern A Columbia Falls (9-1), which trailed 18-11 early in the second period.

Over the final 22 minutes the WildKats outscored the Southwestern A Broncs (7-5) 45-14.

Taryn Searle led Hamilton with 11 points.

BROWNING – Dulci Skunkcap scored 15 points, Chalissa Kipp added 13 and first-place Browning (8-2, 5-0) edged Whitefish in a Northwestern A girls’ matchup.

Gracie Smyley had a game-high 17 points for Whitefish, which fell to 2-9, 2-3 in league. Jadi Walburn added 15 points and Mikenna Ells followed with 10.

EUREKA – Cory Chaney and Alex Lowe each scored off missed free throws in the final two minutes as Eureka edged Anaconda in a non-league Class B game.

A.J. Pacella led the Lions (7-5) with 14 points while Channey added 13 and Lowe pitched in with 12.

Eureka also had eight assists and six points from Austin Sartori.

Kyler Gochanour led Anaconda with 22 points.

Bower had four points in the final frame for Libby (8-2, 3-1 in league), which led 22-16 after three quarters.

COLUMBIA FALLS – Hamilton used an 8-0 spurt to close the first half to build a lead, then hit 10 of 12 free throws down the stretch to pick up a 58-49 non-league win.

Trey Searle scored 21 points and Carson Rostad 20 for the Southwestern A Broncs (10-2). They combined for 14 in the second quarter, when the Broncs surged in front 31-24.

Dillon Schipp scored 12 points for the Northwestern A Wildcats (1-9), and Danny Henjum chipped in with 11.

WHITEFISH – Sam Menicke led three Whitefish players in double figures with 21 points, but Browning’s Riley Spoonhunter caught the Bulldogs with a big fourth quarter.

Spoonhunter scored 16 of his game-high 26 points in the final eight minutes as Browning (7-3, 5-0 in the Northwestern A) ate up a 41-36 deficit.

Talon Holmquist had 12 points for Whitefish (3-8, 1-4), and Jayce Cripe added 11.
