Golf Tournament Schulz takes 4-shot lead into last round of 4th of July

WHITEFISH — Coral Schulz, who had the best round of the day on Thursday with a 3-under 69 on the North Course, followed with a 2-over 74 on the South Course on Friday to push her lead to four shots after 36 holes at the 83rd annual Earl Hunt Memorial 4th of July Tournament at Whitefish Lake Golf Club.

The former Whitefish High School standout and current Montana State University player, with a 143 total, wraps up the tournament today with the final 18 holes on the North Course.

Cathie Tronson, 73-74—147, is holding down second place.

Schulz and Tronson had the best scores on Friday at 74 along with Darah Smith Newell, 74-74—149, who is fourth.

Shealyn Hafer, 71-77—148, is third and defending champion Jasi Acharya of Carver, Minnesota, is fifth, 70-80—150.

In men’s play, Payton Taylor of Hamilton carded the low round on the second day with a 68 on the North Course for a 140 two-day total and a 1-shot lead on Liam Clancy, 70-71—141.

Sean Ramsbacher, 72-71—143, and Conor Rooney, 70-73—143, are tied for third. Byron Olson, 71-73—144, is fifth.

The men end tournament play today on the South Course.

Clancy, Rooney and Shawn Tucker topped the leader board after the first day of play with 70s. Taylor was in a four-way tie for sixth place at 72.
