WHITEFISH — Jasi Acharya of Carver, Minnesota, turned in a record-setting performance on opening day of the 82nd annual 4th of July Tournament at Whitefish Lake Golf Club.

Acharya shot a 9-under 63 on the South Course for a seven-shot lead on Kylie Esh of Missoula on Thursday.

The 63 is a new record for the South Course. Kelly Gillum had the old mark of 67.

Kalispell’s Tiegan Avery matched par, which has her sitting third.

Kinsey Irvin of Lewiston, 73, and Whitney Frykman of Seattle, 74, round out the top five.

Women’s play in the 54-hole event shifts to the North Course today. The women play the South Course again on the final day.

Hailey Hoagland of Butte and Maggie Crippen, who placed 1-2, respectively, last year, are not in this year’s field.

Esh finished third last year.

Andrew Medley of Scottsdale, Arizona, holds the top spot for men with his 6-under-66 on the North Course. Logan Lindholm of Kalispell is two shots back.

Conor Rooney of Whitefish and Robb Bergeson of Billings are tied for third with 70s.

Sean Ramsbacher of Missoula is in fifth with a 71.

Defending champion Joey Moore of Billings shot even par, along with four other golfers. They are tied for sixth.

Medley won this tournament in 2012 and 2016.

The men play the South Course today and finish on the North Course.

Peter Benson of Billings carded a 71 to lead the senior field.

Play resumes today and Saturday, at 7 a.m.
