TENNIS: Frampton, Smith lead way for Wolfpack netters

No. 1 singles players Maria Frampton and Rory Smith led the way for Glacier on a long day of tennis action on the courts at Flathead Valley Community College on Saturday.

Frampton went 3-0 to raise her season record to 4-0.

Smith won 2 of his 3 matches to improve to 3-1 overall.

The Glacier girls beat Missoula Sentinel 5-3 and Missoula Big Sky 7-1, but came up short against Missoula Hellgate, losing 5-3.

The Glacier boys and Big Sky tied 4-4. The Wolfpack lost to Sentinel and Hellgate by 7-1 scores.

Flathead managed to split with Big Sky 4-4 in girls play for the day’s highlight.

Kendall Pyron, Emma Hawkins and Mallory Slaten won in singles action against the Eagles. Olivia Mohatt and Delani Long picked up a win in doubles.

The Bravettes lost to Hellgate 8-0 and Sentinel 8-1.

Pyron had the lone win against Sentinel.

The Flathead boys were 0-3, losing by 8-0 scores to Big Sky, Hellgate and Sentinel.

Ryan Thomsen had the match of the day for the Braves, losing to Korey Hall in a singles tie-breaker 6-1, 6-2, (11-9).

“All Brave and Bravette players showed great effort and sportsmanship throughout the day,” Flathead coach Jimmy Cripe said.

“I am extremely proud of how every player competed with integrity and class in all 48 matches today. We are improving every time we step onto the court, which has been our goal.”

Complete results for Flathead were not available.

Glacier and Flathead face off with Columbia Falls on Tuesday, 1 and 3 p.m., at Flathead Valley Community College.

Columbia Falls splits

with Stevensville

MISSOULA — The Columbia Falls boys pulled out three wins in singles play and won at No. 1 doubles to pull out a 4-3 dual win at the University of Montana courts.

Stevensville dominated girls play, posting a 6-1 win.

Neils Getts, Dillon Washington and Garret Caffrey were singles winners for Columbia Falls.

Camryn Lingle and Tristan Grein netted the doubles win.

“Neils played fabulous and Dillon stepped up today and played really well,” Columbia Falls coach Michele Colliander said.

“No. 1 doubles had a great match.”

As did Columbia Falls No. 1 singles player John Gilk, who lost a tough outing to David Haacke, 6-4, 6-7 (6-8), 7-5.

“A long match,” Colliander said.

“It could have gone either way. They had some great points.”

Hannah Schweikert prevented Stevensville from sweeping girls play with her dominating 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles.

“She played really well, was fun to watch,” Columbia Falls coach Gene Marcille said.

“She has a bright future.”

Columbia Falls is scheduled to play Flathead and Glacier on Tuesday at Flathead Valley Community College.

Cut Bank Invitational

POLSON — Polson enjoyed nothing but success on its home court during the second day of play in the Cut Bank Invitational.

The Pirates, playing in Polson after the tournament was relocated due to inclement weather, dispensed of Libby and Bigfork by scores of 6-1 and 5-2, respectively, in girls play while the Polson boys battled past both Libby and Bigfork 4-3.

Berkely Ellis and Briala Forman picked up a singles win and a doubles win apiece for the Pirates.

Joe McDonald and Colby Devlin won singles matches versus Libby, and Kendal Forman-Webster, Trevor Schultz and Zevan Walker earned singles wins against Bigfork.
