Everyone should have a mentor. One of mine died recently and looking back on his life and my interaction and that of others with him tells a bit about the human condition, the weaknesses and strengths of people and lessons to be learned thereof, including perhaps to accept people as they are and not judge.

Nathaniel B. Blumberg, who died Feb.14 at age 89 in Kalispell several days after a stroke, was one of my professors and journalism dean back in the 1960s when journalism was in its hey-day and universities had influence in society. He was an interesting, inspirational, unusual, controversial and larger-than-life-type guy who was liked by many and intimidating to others.
