A 51-year-old Kalispell man was sentenced Thursday in Flathead District Court to five years in prison and 20 years of probation after pleading guilty to stabbing a woman in the neck.

On June 3, 2012, David Carr broke into his ex-girlfriend Sherri Cochran’s apartment, pinned her to the bed, told her he was going to kill her and commit suicide, then stabbed her in the neck. Cochran initially fought Carr off, but he held her at knifepoint for more than an hour before she convinced him to let her leave.

            888111,

The prison in Hardin is a private prison, the state can't take it over without compensating the owners of the prison.

There are currently no new state owned facilities, and it would cost millions to build one, but again, you can't just take someones private property.

We can't afford another prison, nor the costs of operating one. We are being overrun by criminals and the system can't handle it. Yes we do have to come up with a solution, and being lenient is not one of them.

Now we must ban all "military replica" assault knives..

Attempted murder gets 5 yrs? This is just one in a huge line of deferments, short sentences, or probations on serious crimes. When is enough, enough? How many times do we need to see repeat offenders, already out on probation and deferred sentences, that get more probation and deferred sentences. What is the point of the deferred sentence if when they violate their conditions they don't go to jail/prison. If the problem is no more room for criminals then lets address that. Lets come up with a plan for more jail space, or another prison. Hell that would even create jobs. How about a tent city jail like in AZ? I bet folks would think twice if they had to be out in a tent in the winter....... Whatever the solution, but the revolving door in the courts is a joke.
