A taxiway paving project at Glacier Park International Airport has been scrapped along with dozens of other projects at airports across the country because Congress hasn’t passed legislation to fully fund the Federal Aviation Administration.

There were about 50 jobs attached to the local $6.8 million taxiway project along with additional subcontractor employment, said Cindi Martin, director for Glacier Park International.

Money for projects like this comes out of the Aviation Trust Fund, which is generated from aviation fuel taxes. That means only people who use the aviation system pay. It's not a general fund expenditure like most government expenses...FAA is the pass-through agency.

The real shame is that the trust fund money is just sitting there just waiting to be appropriated. In the mean time real people are losing real jobs.

It's more like our two esteemed Senators pyssed away the money to insurance companies, crony capitalists, and Freddie/Fannie (to grossly simply and understate the criminal mismangement of our tax dollars) and now there's none left for much more than social security and medicare.

It's too bad they didn't spend our money like drunken sailors......when we ran out of dough, we called it a night and went back to the ship. These guys just keep borrowing and stealing from everyone in sight and buying rounds for the house.

I'm a Republican Tea Party person and I'm sadden that Obama and the democrates have caused this problem. But it don't bother me a bit that the Goverment is not going to be spending millions on this project at this time. We don't have the money to do jobs that are not needed right now. So I'm glad the Republicans have stopped this. But I'm sure that don't make sence to some. Sounds like the Kalispell City airport can KISS there expansion plans good by.. Yea, Kalispell residents are very happy about that.

donho, think with your brain and not your sense of self entitlement. This is $136,000 per job.

Thanks to the republican tea party for the loss of 50 good paying jobs here in the Flathead, now we can all rejoice in the fact that the tea party republicans want the corporations and wealthy individuals of this country not have to pay more tax like the rest of us, so they can provide all these jobs we seem to be losing!
