Authorities responded to the residence, located at the intersection of Sixth Avenue West and First Street, after Rockwell's girlfriend reported that he was suicidal. She also told deputies Rockwell assaulted her Tuesday night during an argument in a car on Montana 206 near Columbia Falls, giving her a black eye. After missing him at work, police found Rockwell holed up in the residence at about 1:30 p.m. He surrendered without incident at about 4:40 p.m. Partner assault and other charges are pending, Burns said. Rockwell left a loaded .380-caliber semi-automatic pistol and two suicide notes inside the residence.
