The Whitefish City Council is willing to consider using a portion of the city’s tax increment finance district revenue to help make improvements to Whitefish’s aging high school.

Figuring out how to do that will be the next step.

I think using TIF to help fund the high school building makes a lot of sense. TIF is designated to better the community and I can't think of a better way to do it than build/remodel the high school. I'm sure all the people that see a need for a new city hall due to poor space layout, technology needs, city image, etc. can easily see that our high school has the same needs. Let's invest in our community by investing in education and youth. After all these kids will be our next city leaders.

I'm liking this new high school idea more and more all the time.
Whitefish is unique. In lots of ways, including money and taxes. I' m all for continuing to do things that increase it's changes into whatever it's going to be.
I know, people will scream that it's pushing the poor people out. Yeah, so what. The rest of the valley can house the poor people who serve the rich. It's work, it's jobs.

I do not see how funding a new school would be detrimental to TIF. If anything I would say failing to fund the school would lead me to ask for TIF to be removed from Property Tax law.
