Flathead County District Court Judge Stewart Stadler ruled Friday that a statewide recount is warranted for the state Superintendent of Public Instruction race, but a state attorney told Stadler his ruling would be appealed to the Supreme Court Monday.

Even though the Republican candidate in the race, Martin City resident Sandy Welch, has to pay for the recount, Friday’s proceedings turned out to be a legal skirmish involving issues beyond vote counting.

            You poor soul, you try and you try and you try, with your yard full of signs and posts. Fact is you are going the wrong way. Fact is some schools need more oversight some need less, Welch plan. Fact is some schools need more money some do not. Welch plan. Fact is the government employee’s pension plan will need fixed by all parties .Welch plan. Fact is it will be easier for the Republicans to fix all of these issues if we increase our natural resource recovery. Welch plan. Now if you choose to sit there collecting your pension while it goes into bankruptcy along with the state I would caution you that the generations to come that you have moored yourself to may just case you adrift.

            Flyfish,

            Please provide a link or two in regards to the allegation that there was an attempt to keep American indians, blacks, and hispanics from voting...

            @bill39,

            This recount by Welch and her backers is just another example of attemps at voter suppresion that has become so popular with the right wingers. Many of the examples she is using are from issues on Native American Reservations. There was a very strong effort this fall to keep American indians from voting as they vote over 90% Democratic. We saw these same tactics used in large cities against Blacks and Hispanics.
            As far as voting irregularities goes why do we have such a problem in this county counting votes? Every two years we seem to have more problems than just about any other area in the state, seems a little fishy to me maybe theres some vote switching going on. I do know of several younger voters who's ballots were rejected, another group that votes strongly Democratic.

            flyfish post: thoughtful, intelligent and informed. Not many of those types of posts on this board.

            other posts: mouth breathing, knuckle draggers you generally read here. Can't spell or put sentences together in any kind of coherent manner let alone make an argument that has any merit.

            fly: Welch will still lose but the money still goes into the economy.

            So, you should be happy and encourage the recount, right?

            The republicans could care less about the Superintendent of Public Instruction position as they are for the most part anti public education. What they want is another vote on the state land board. They will only have one vote over the next 4 years that being Attorney General elect Fox. They want this position to help exploit areas for coal and oil exploration with no regard for the enviroment. Denise Juneau is Native American and will look for a balance between jobs and a healthy safe and clean enviroment. At least the $150,000 Welch will spend comes from out of state big money people, probably the Koch brothers. Welch will still lose but the money still goes into the economy.
