As a child growing up in California, Vietnam veteran David Hadly loved plots that featured the good guy defeating the bad guy in medieval battles, westerns and war movies.

Now a resident of Lower Valley with his wife, Lina, the West Point graduate recalls fantasizing about himself as the hero in those films. Even though his father, the commander of Patton’s evacuation hospitals in France, self-destructed with alcohol and drugs after the war, Hadly was not dissuaded.
