Merle Baldwin, 90, makes his way through his hail-damaged orchard on Thursday morning on Montford Road east of Kalispell. Baldwin moved to the farm in 1928 and said in all his years, he has never seen a storm like the one that came through Wednesday.

Each tree in the orchard was surrounded with downed fruit on Thursday morning.

The Flathead Valley’s cherry crop was spared from damage Wednesday afternoon as a fast-moving storm pummeled the Kalispell area.
“I haven’t heard any horror stories yet,” Ken Edgington, secretary of the Flathead Lake Cherry Growers Association, said Thursday morning. “It looks like we dodged a bullet.”
