Charges have been filed against a 22-year-old Whitefish man for the Jan. 7 shooting of two deer near downtown Whitefish.

Tarn W. Sandelin was expected to surrender to officers late Thursday on an arrest warrant, according to a press release from the Whitefish Police Department. He faces misdemeanor charges of criminal mischief, discharging a firearm within city limits and negligent endangerment.

Hey Partyer, He works in MT, do a google search (another great way to get info on someone) for Tarn Sandelin, Whitefish, he runs equipment for Great Northern Powder Guides, a backcountry ski outfitt outside of Whitefish.

You ask, Mtngal what would have happened if someone had been shot. THEN he would have been charged with a felony.

The easiest way to check somebody out is to look at their Facebook page. A little trick I learned right here on the Interlake comments. Thanks mom.
Mr. Sandelin's page is wide open for all. Not that there's much there, but you will learn where he is. Not MT.

I would be willing bet money, he was on the other substance, ALCOHOL. You know, the legally obtained, and readily available substance. No one rolls a doob, and then drives around town shooting up stuff. Meth, maybe? Alcohol really makes idiots of people. But, maybe he's just an idiot.

You ask what kind of person would do such a thing? Possibly someone who is drunk or high on that medical marijuana, has a mental disorder. In which case he walks amongst us.

Mntgal, I agree that Tarn W. Sandelin is a douche bag and needs to be punished to the full extent of the law. I have to laugh at your comment of "innocent deer". I am sorry to tell you deer do not have the ability to know right from wrong. All they know to do is wonder around, eat, sleep and mate.

Chief Dial, there must be some felony charges that are in order. Why is he only being charged with a misdemeanor?

yep. while people who were in compliance with state laws concerning medical marijuana are being locked up long term in our jails and prisons, I imagine this d-bag will get slapped on the rist and maybe spend a night or two in jail.

I'm with you, Mntgal. Anyone who shows this kind of cruelty and absolute disregard for the safety of others is a distinct danger to society. I'm sure statistics would show that a creep capable of these acts has an unusually high chance of additional deranged offenses. If this kind of activity is only a misdemeanor, then we have a serious problem.

Are you kidding me? Only misdemeanor charges for this very disturbing incident? This story has bothered me to the core since I read this in January. While I am so happy this suspect has been identified and charged, I cant believe he is only being charged with misdemeanors? He drove through town with a gun and shot two animals and shot up a store. What if a person had been standing there? What kind of person drives around and shoots at innocent deer, kills one and leaves one suffering to die? This is the only thing the police can come up with? Can you add animal cruelty? And I bet he wont get any jail time. Disgusting.
