The Glacier Symphony presents another concert in its Jazz Night with the Maestro series on Friday, Sept. 30, with Earth Anthem (Explorations) featuring Grammy-nominated Native American flute virtuoso, the legendary R. Carlos Nakai. Nakai will be collaborating with Glacier Symphony Maestro John Zoltek and a select ensemble for this unique concert performance. The program will feature a fusion of original music drawn from Nakai’s many award-winning CDs and music by Zoltek written and arranged especially for this concert. Zoltek will play electric guitar and piano and lead a jazz ensemble with prominent Whitefish-based musicians Don Caverly (upright bass) and Jeremy Reinbolt (drums and percussion). Also featured will be a seven-piece amplified string section consisting of Glacier Symphony musicians. The resulting sound world will be both rich and experimental.

“I know that making music with R. Carlos Nakai will be an inspiring and potentially transformational experience,” Zoltek said. “I look forward to locking musical antlers with this fabulous musician and exploring new sonic worlds.”

Zoltek’s Earth Anthem (Explorations) is a new suite of fusion tunes to include “Elk Thirst,” “What Is True,” “Dreaming Forest,” “Still Night Coyote” and “Earth Anthem,” The anthem is inspired by the poetry of Montana-born poet and University of Montana professor, Heather Cahoon. Musical material is drawn from another work in progress for full symphony, poetic recitation, and Nakai.

The concert will be held at the O’Shaughnessy Cultural Arts Center in downtown Whitefish. There will be two shows: 6:30 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. Both include theater and cabaret seating.

Ticket pricing is $45for the mezzanine, and $55 for the theater or cabaret seating on the main floor.
