New collaboration brings back MET Opera Live

| November 3, 2022 12:00 AM

Whitefish Theatre Company and Whitefish Performing Arts Center co-present the screening of the 2022-2023 season of MET Opera Live In HD.

After a two-year hiatus, a collaboration between the Whitefish Arts Council, Whitefish Performing Arts Center and Whitefish Theatre Company is bringing back the 2022-2023 live streaming season of the Metropolitan Opera to Whitefish. Six performances will be shown at the PAC and four performances will be shown at the O’Shaughnessy Center.

Considered one of the most popular operas of all time, Guiseppe Verdi’s “La Traviata” (“The Fallen Woman”) will be shown Saturday, Nov. 5, at 10:55 a.m. at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish. This is the first of 10 operas that will be shown at the two venues between November 2022 and June 2023.

Sung in Italian with English subtitles, “La Traviata” features Verdi’s most profound and heartfelt music. Described for beginners as “Pretty Woman meets La Bohème” and the inspiration for the film “Moulin Rouge,” the story

follows a high-priced courtesan who is forced to give up the only man she ever loved.

The opera has captured the imaginations of audiences and performers alike with its accessible plotline, relatable characters and recognizable

melodies.

Approximate run time is three hours and 10 minutes, including two intermissions. Tickets are sold only at the door, which will open at 10:30 am. Food and beverages will be available for purchase during the performance.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students, paid by cash or check only.
