“The House That Rob Built,” feted at Montana’s Big Sky Film Festival and released digitally nationwide, has garnered a nomination from the Northwest Regional Emmy Awards, in the category of Documentary/Historical.

Currently available on DVD/Blu-Ray, and on Tubi and other digital platforms, “The House That Rob Built” chronicles the remarkable, 38-year coaching career of the University of Montana’s Robin Selvig and his Montana Grizzlies women's basketball team.

Beginning in 1978, in the wake of Title IX, when the notion of young women competing in college basketball at a high level was barely a blip on anyone’s radar, Selvig took on the nascent women’s program at the UM and made it his life’s work.

For nearly four decades, ending in the 2015-16 season, Selvig led the Lady Griz to 865 victories and only 286 losses. Along the way, he also recruited young women from Native American reservations, giving them a chance at both sports and academic excellence.

Previously, “The House That Rob Built” — co-directed by Jonathan Cipiti and Megan Harrington, a former Lady Griz player — was a nominee for the Big Sky Award at the 2020 edition of the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival in Missoula where it played to three sold-out houses.

The film tied with the Academy Award-winning “Summer of Soul” in the Best Documentary category at the 2021 International Catholic Film Critics Association Awards. It also was a 2022 Christopher Awards winner in the TV, Cable & Streaming category. The film was produced by Family Theater Productions of Hollywood.

“I am grateful to the Northwest Regional Emmys for the honor,” the film’s co-director Megan Harrington said. “As we approach the 50th anniversary of Title IX, I stand in awe of the women who blazed a trail for others to follow, and coaches like Rob who believed in the greatness of women athletes from the beginning.”
