Western AA seeding complete, stage set for state tourney

MISSOULA — Flathead qualified 24 wrestlers for the AA state tournament and Glacier 19 at the Western AA divisional seeding tournament Saturday.

Team scores are not kept in divisionals for the AA schools.

The Braves had six individual champions, including Chase Youso, who had three pins on his way to win the 205-pound title and Fin Nadeau (145) won his fourth Western AA title.

“Overall, we can’t complain,” Flathead coach Jeff Thompson said. “State will be a battle next week with Butte, Billings Senior, Billings West and us. We set ourselves up pretty good this weekend. It’s going to be a very exciting state tournament this year.”

Teegan Vasquez was Glacier’s only individual champion, but the Wolfpack placed seven wrestlers in the top four. Vasquez is 21-0 this season.

Glacier’s only senior, Royce Conklin, was pinned in the 170 final by Flathead’s Anders Thompson.

“Overall a good weekend, seven guys in the top four is great,” Glacier coach Ross Dankers said. “Excited for our group as a whole, led by our lone senior Royce Conklin making the finals, our Mr. Consistency Teegan taking first and many young kids punching their tickets to state. The program is in a really exciting place right now.”
