Rumsey Eash, 6 more Flathead tracksters shine
GREAT FALLS — Lilli Rumsey Eash ran the fastest 3,200 in Class AA this spring and six Flathead athletes won twice in a track and field dual with Great Falls Russell Friday.
Brody Thornsberry, Gabe Felton, Josie Wilson, Alivia Rinehart, Tali Miller and Akilah Kubi all picked up two victories while Flathead and CMR split the team titles.
Rumsey Eash specialized in the 3,200 Friday and clocked 11 minutes, 47.51 seconds. Only one runner has gone faster (Big Timber’s Natalie Wood) and the Bravette is four seconds under the next-best AA time. Rumsey Eash also owns the fastest AA time in the 1,600 so far.
Kubi and Rinehart came by one of their wins in rare fashion: They finished in a dead heat atop the 100-meter dash, both clocking 13.59 seconds.
Kubi added a win in the long jump — she marked 16 feet, 7 ¾ inches, the sixth-best in Class AA — while Rinehart won the 200 in 27.69, the eighth-best AA time.
Wilson swept the 800 and 1,600 and Miller took the javelin and shot put as Flathead won the girls dual 87-58.
Miller marked the third best javelin throw (114-9) in AA thus far — teammate Kya Wood is right behind her at 114-7 — and her shot put mark of 33-5 ¾ ranks eighth.
Other top marks were provided by Afton Wride (33-7, sixth in AA triple jump), Hania Halverson (9-0, top 10 in the pole vault) and Harlie Roth (49.53), Rinehart (51.31) and Madi Gilchrist (51.46) in the 300 hurdles.
Flathead lost the boys dual 84 ½ to 60 ½, but posted some impressive marks.
Thornsberry’s time of 23.46 seconds in the 200 puts him sixth in AA; he’s also sixth in the long jump after winning at 20-10.
Gabe Felton’s time of 2:05.8 in the 800 ranks No. 3 in AA; he won the 1,600 in 4:41.83.
Other top marks came from Wyatt Thompson (10th in AA for the 400 at 54.11); Odin Erickson (5-10 in the high jump); and Dylan Zink (20-3 in the long jump).
Zink, who already leads AA in the triple jump, won Friday with a mark of 42-10. Flathead’s long relay sits in the top six after clocking 3:39.23.
CMR’s Archie LaFurge ran 15.17 to win the 110-hurdles, the best mark in AA; the Ruslters’ JJ Triplett uncorked a shot put of 47-11 ½ to also lead AA.
