Woman charged with poaching elk near Swan Lake

A woman has been charged with poaching a cow elk on private property in the Swan Lake area Sunday night.

According to information from Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a report late Sunday night from a landowner who reported hearing multiple shots fired on Big Rock Drive east of Swan Lake.

Lake County Dispatch contacted a Montana Game Warden, who responded and discovered an individual without a hunting license who had shot and killed a cow elk on private property.

The woman was cited for multiple violations, including unlawful hunting from a public roadway, hunting during a closed season, and failing to obtain landowner permission. The elk was confiscated.
