Doorn, Teigan win state golf titles
SHELBY - Arthur Doorn of Whitefish and Avery Teigan of Kalispell are headed home today with Montana State Junior golf titles.
The tournament was at Marias Valley Golf and Country Club.
Doorn won the boys 14-15 year-old age division at the Montana State Juniors tournament on Monday with a two-day total of 149. He shot 73 on Sunday and 76 on Monday. That put him one shot ahead of Missoula's Patrick Colberg at 150.
Teigan won the girls' 13-and-under tournament by six strokes - with a two-day total of 157. She had a 78 on the first day and shot a 79 on Monday. Second place went to Helena's Cora Schulz at 163.
Other local youth also did very well.
Reed Platke of Whitefish finished third among boys 16-17 with a 141 and Kalispell's Ryan Porch was fourth at 142. Logan Iverson of Kalispell was eighth at 147.
Brandon McIver of Billings won the tournament at 132.
In the boys' 13-and-under division, Ryan Keenan and Ryggs Johnston, of Bigfork and Libby, respectively, were both oh-so-close. Keenan finished second at 151 and Johnston tied for third at 152. Winner Scott Payton of Billings shot a 150.
Kalispell's Tom Mann was fifth at 153.
