The Montana State Library is soliciting public opinion on the assignment of the name “Yenne Peak” to an unnamed summit in Glacier National Park.

The peak is above Iceberg Lake about 4 1/2 miles east of Many Glacier, as shown on the map at http://msl.mt.gov/geonames/Yenne_Peak.pdf.

The name was proposed by William P. Yenne of San Francisco after his father, William J. Yenne (1908-1994), who was employed for many years by Glacier National Park as an outdoorsman, guide and trails supervisor.

The request to name the peak is being considered by the U.S. Board of Geographic Names.

The board has a policy to avoid creating new names in wilderness areas. Yenne has asked that the board make an exception to in this case.

The public is invited to submit comments or opinions on the proposed name to Gerald Daumiller by calling (406) 444-5358 or by emailing gdaumiller@mt.gov before June 24.

More information about this proposal is available at http://msl.mt.gov/geonames.
