Bigfork High School wrapped up its speech, debate and drama season with a fifth-place finish at the Class B-C State Speech, Debate and Drama Tournament Saturday.

The team did not place in the speech meet and took fifth place in the drama tournament, which was won by the squad from Manhattan. Loyola Sacred Heart High School of Missoula won its 28th straight state speech meet.

“I’m pretty proud. Overall, we did great,” Bigfork head coach Charlie Appleby said.

“I took 15 kids to state. Ten made it to [the semifinal found] and six made it to finals. That’s really good.”

Four of those six competitors placed in the final round.

Isaac Reichner and Olivia Witt finished third in Classical Duo, and Becca Sewell and Amber McDaniel came in fifth in Serious Duo, both drama events.

In speech, Maddie Lorang took sixth place in Memorized Public Address. Zoe Gaiser came in eighth in Humorous Oral Interpretation.

“I’m very proud of how it went. We were in it the whole time,” Appleby said.
