William George Welch, 82

William George Welch died after a long illness June 15, 2008. He was born Feb. 24, 1926, in Helena, to Winfred George 'Jack' and Elizabeth Kathryn (Nelson) Welch. Bill moved to Polson as a young boy and completed his public school education in Lake County.

He enlisted in the Navy just prior to his graduation from Polson High School to serve in World War II. He served as a pharmacist mate at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital.

After his service in the Navy, he traveled, worked and eventually completed a degree in chiropractic medicine. After practicing chiropractic medicine in Thompson Falls and Polson, he became a real-estate broker for more than 40 years with Karlsgodt, Edgewater, and Sailmaker realty firms.

He was a life member of the Elks Lodge (BPOE 1695). He served in all official chairs, including exalted ruler, and competed successfully in district and national ritualistic contests.

His father, Jack, mother, Elizabeth, and sister, Janet, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his sister, Kathleen Gray, of Missoula; son, Bill, and grandson, Alex, of Canton, Ga.; daughter, Jackie, and granddaughters, Alison and Georgia, of Decatur, Ga.; daughter, Lynn, of Bigfork and Stockton, Calif.; along with nieces and nephews in Missoula and Seattle.

Respecting his wishes, there was no funeral or memorial service.

Inurnment was held in the veteran section of Lakeview Cemetery in Polson.

Memorials may be made in Bill's name to libraries, schools and scholarship funds of the donor's choice.
