Registered to vote? Recheck it

If you think you registered to vote when you renewed your driver's license, you might double-check with the Flathead County Election Department.

People who renew their licenses or obtain them for the first time here, are offered the convenience of registering to vote at the state Motor Vehicle Division driver exam station in Kalispell.

Sometimes, though, it doesn't work.

"We have maybe 10 an election - 10 or 15," said Monica Eisenzimer, supervisor of the Election Department.

Sometimes, people don't sign the form or fill out the address portion incorrectly, she said. Sometimes, the exam station doesn't forward the forms to the Election Department.

In the latter case, registration can be confirmed through a database, Eisenzimer said. Voters who discover their registrations weren't valid can register on Election Day, she said.

The process works better if people check in advance, though. Only the people who registered at the exam station after the primary election should double-check their voting statuses.

No one at the exam station in Kalispell was able to comment Thursday on the occasional problem.

Eisenzimer, though, said "it's not a real big thing" and is nothing new.

"This has been happening for a long time."
