John Norman Nicholson, 64

John Norman Nicholson, 64, a Montana Department of Transportation section supervisor from Shelby, passed away Friday Nov. 10, 2006, while hunting in the Missouri Breaks in southern Blaine County, due to heart failure.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, at the Whitted Funeral Chapel in Shelby. Burial of ashes will take place at a later date in the Chinook Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Myrna Nicholson, of Shelby; daughter, Peggy Halquist, and Chad Taylor, of Tacoma, Wash.; son, Norman, and Becci Nicholson, of Kalispell; sisters, Thelma Halteman of Roach, Mo., Alice and Paul Green of Cut Bank, and Barb and Dick Letang of Great Falls; brother, Pete, and Darlene Nicholson, of Billings; grandchildren, Bradly Halquist of Tacoma, and Danielle and Amanda Nicholson, both of Kalispell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Jessie Nicholson; and brothers, Chet and Bill Nicholson.

John was born Nov. 28, 1941, at Birchtree, Mo., to John S. and Jessie (Hannah) Nicholson. The family moved to the Harlem area when John was a youth, and where he grew up and graduated from high school.

He served with the U.S. Army from 1961 until 1963, having married Myrna Scheafer at Harlem in 1962.

He worked for the Montana Department of Transportation for many years as a section supervisor and would have retired next August.

John was a member of the Shelby Elks Lodge and served as Past Exalted Ruler, Past Worshipful Master of the Shelby Masonic Lodge and OES Past Worthy Patron.

He enjoyed hunting, farming and spending time with his grandchildren.
