POLSON - Flathead fell behind early, but rallied to pull out a 5-2 victory over Polson on Tuesday in the first game of a nonconference softball doubleheader.

Polson, however, rebounded to take the second game, 14-1.

Polson scored two runs in the first inning of the first game, but failed to cross home plate after that.

"We were getting the bat on the ball," said Polson coach Larry Smith of the opener.

"We left seven runners on base; we had our opportunities."

Polson had nine hits in that outing to eight for Flathead. Dylen Zetterberg led PHS by going 3-for-4, which included a double.

Heather Heagle and Brittany Nelson both went 2-for-3 and doubled to pace FHS in the opener.

"They had two runs in the first and that was it," said FHS coach Dale Beerman.

"Then we shut them down."

Heagle had three stolen bases in that outing and Courtney Sverdrop one.

Polson's first three hitters fanned to open the second game, but the Pirates then exploded for four runs in the second inning and five in both the third and fourth to end the contest on the 10-run rule.

"The bats went crazy there," said Smith.

Kendra Woldstad tripled in the second and fourth innings and Amanda James tripled in the third.

Woldstad finished with 3 RBIs along with Jaelin Vandeberg.

Polson, 17-3, hosts Whitefish on Thursday.

The Pirates were coming off a very successful go at the LaVerne Combo Invitational. Polson posted a 3-1 mark in the two-day event.

Flathead, 6-5 in league action, hosts Missoula Big Sky, 15-0, on Thursday, 4 p.m. Big Sky was unbeaten a year ago when Flathead knocked them off.
