WHITEFISH - The Lions may have had a slow start to the season, but they are rolling now.

Eureka traveled to Whitefish and beat the Bulldogs JV squad, 18-1 in five innings.

The Lions are now 9-5 after starting the year with a couple of losses to powerhouse Thompson Falls.

Thompson placed second at state last year and returned most of its players.

The Lady Bulldogs had a rough day on the field. They gave up 18 runs on just seven Eureka hits and had eight errors.

Pitcher Shasta Buzzard also gave up seven walks but struck out three Eureka batters.

Erica Johnson continued to put up impressive numbers for the Lions.

She pitched two innings and gave up zero hits and zero walks with four strike outs.

Johnson also went three for four at the plate and drove in two runs.

Johnson, a senior, is batting over .600 along with teammate Amy Roberts.

Whitefish's combination of errors and walks gave Eureka a 13-0 lead after just two innings.

The Bulldogs' lone score came in the third inning off an error by the Lions.

Roberts and Sienna Heinz also came in to pitch for Eureka.

Roberts earned one strike out, along with one hit and one run.

The Lions begin a string of conference games over the next two weeks before the state tournament begins May 25.
