Kenneth Wayne Kirkpatrick, 78

Kenneth Wayne Kirkpatrick, 78, of Surprise, Ariz., passed away March 22, 2006, in Surprise.

He was born May 24, 1927, in Kalispell to Hugh L. and Frances E. (Adams) Kirkpatrick.

Kenneth graduated from Flathead County High School in 1945, served a tour with the U.S. Army in Germany after V-E Day, and then obtained a degree in architecture from Montana State University in Bozeman.

He then joined the Kalispell architectural firm Taylor, Thon, Schwartz and Kirkpatrick, where he worked until 1972. He worked with the Missoula firm of Witwer and Price before accepting a position with the U.S. Postal Service, where he remained until retiring as design and construction manager in the Seattle Facilities Service Office in 1992, managing post-office construction in the Pacific Northwest.

While living in Kalispell, Kenneth was a member of Central Christian Church and was the principal designer of its current building on Second Avenue East. He also participated in the design of Kalispell Junior High School, among many other buildings in western Montana, including Miller Hall and Jesse Hall on the University of Montana campus.

Kenneth was a member of the Trinity Masonic Lodge No. 152 in Kalispell and the Missoula Scottish Rite Bodies, and a member of the American Institute of Architects.

He married Arlene Berg of Climax, Saskatchewan, in 1955. The couple enjoyed celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in August 2005 with their children and grandchildren in Bend, Ore., followed by Kenneth's 60th Flathead County High School class reunion in Kalispell.

The couple lived in Kalispell, Missoula, California and Washington State before moving to Arizona in 2004. They enjoyed many years of traveling together after Kenneth's retirement.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Arlene; son, Doug Kirkpatrick, and wife, Beth, of Turlock, Calif.; daughter, Karen Aguilera, and husband, Andr/s, of Klamath Falls, Ore.; son, Logan Kirkpatrick, and wife, Sharon, of Puyallup, Wash.; daughter, Janna Gann, and husband, John, of Bonney Lake, Wash.; grandchildren, Heather and Shannon Kirkpatrick; Nicol?s and Cheyenne Aguilera; and Tyler Gann. His brother, Ronald, and sister, Eva Jean, also survive him.

A private memorial service was held in Surprise.
