Play Scrabble to help literacy program

Come to Central School Museum, 124 Second Ave. E., in Kalispell today and team up with others to compete in the "Spell-abration." Gather pledges in advance of your play. Choose to play in either session: from 1 to 3 p.m. or from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Call the office at 257-7323 for more details.

Round up friends for Snow Rodeo

Round up your family and friends and rendezvous today at the Izaak Walton Inn in Essex for the 16th annual Snow Rodeo.

Registration is from 11 a.m. to noon, and the rodeo begins at 1 p.m. Cross-country skiing and such rodeo events as the chuckwagon race and "egg roundup" are part of the day's fun, with a bonfire and sing-along in the evening.

Prizes include a room and caboose stays for next year's Snow Rodeo. Call the Inn at (406) 888-5700 for reservations and more information.

Beach party today in Bigfork

Go to the beach for the fourth annual Bigfork Beach Party and Chili Feed at 5 p.m. today at the Garden Bar and Grill. Admission costs $10 for adults and $5 for students. Feast on homemade chili, corn bread, cole slaw, brownies, soda and beer.

The Chili Feed benefits the Bigfork Rotary and VFW's "Salute the Troops" project, which provides packages that include items such as stationery and phone cards to Montana National Guard troops in Iraq. The boxes will be shipped in time for Easter.

Wear your best beach or Hawaiian attire and bring the children for free beach items at the door.

Carnival today at Lakeside School

Somers/Lakeside PTA invites the public to its annual school carnival from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the Lakeside School gym for games, prizes and fun for the whole family. The kitchen also will be open during the carnival. Call Kim Orr at 857-2402.

Montessori school hosts auction today

Children's House Montessori School of Whitefish's eighth annual Spring Auction begins at 6 p.m. today at Grouse Mountain Lodge in Whitefish.

Silent and live auctions, fine food and beverages, a secret treasure chest, and a spin-to-win prize game are part of the fun.

There is no cost to attend the adult-oriented event.

The school's primary goal is to build the Scholarship Fund, which provides tuition assistance to community families in need.

Children's House Montessori School of Whitefish is a nonprofit organization that provides pre-school and kindergarten classes for children ages 2 to 5, and year-round child care for children ages 2 to 10.

Get in the mood for Big Band tunes

Swing to the sound of the Big Band era tonight with the Swingin' On High Big Band. The event gets under way at 7 p.m. at The Lodge at Whitefish Lake and is a fundraiser for the Lighthouse Christian Home for the Developmentally Disabled.

The evening includes dessert, beverages, a silent auction and raffle.

Christian school fundraiser today

Cross Currents Christian School invites everyone to its Ski Night fundraiser from 4 to 9 p.m. today on Big Mountain.

Tickets cost $15 and are available at Snowghost Outfitters. Of that fee $7 will go toward a fund for playground equipment at the school. The price includes hot chocolate in the Fireside Room.
