Logan Pass opening still planned today

| June 10, 2006 1:00 AM

Glacier National Park's Going-to-the-Sun Road is expected to be open up to Logan Pass from the east this morning, but as of Friday evening, the park had yet to set a time for opening a gate at Jackson Glacier Overlook.

The east-side opening probably will depend on this morning's weather conditions. There was a forecast for heavy rain in Northwest Montana on Friday night.

Access to Logan Pass from the west side of the park is expected to be delayed for "several days" because of impassable construction work under way near the West-side Tunnel.

This weekend, hikers and bikers will continue to have exclusive access to the road beyond a gate near Avalanche Campground.

Visitors are urged to call the park at 888-7800 to check on the latest status of Sun Road. Vehicle access can quickly change due to weather.

Information also is available on the park's Web site, http://www.nps.gov/glac/home.htm
