Outlaws eliminate Mariners

BILLINGS - The American Legion baseball season for Mission Valley concluded on a sour note Friday morning when the Mariners were eliminated from the Class A state tournament.
Gallatin Valley, the defending state champion, crushed the Mariners 16-2. The win allowed Gallatin Valley to stay alive in the double-elimination event at Cobb Field.
Catcher Taylor Blakely blasted a grand slam in a seven-run eighth inning for the Outlaws and shortstop Brandon Oakes drilled a three-run homer for the Outlaws in the fifth.
Gallatin Valley jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning of play and led 9-2 after five innings.
The Mariners were coming off a heartbreaking 7-6 loss to Glendive in 10 innings the night before.
Mission Valley finished the season with a 50-18 record.
