Flathead County sheriff's deputies used a Taser to subdue a man after he bashed his vehicle into a storage unit in Evergreen Friday afternoon.

Richard Mulligan, 26, was charged with felony criminal mischief and resisting arrest after the incident.

Sergeant Jim Browder of the Flathead County Sheriff's Department said deputies were called to storage units at 58 West Cottonwood about 1:15 p.m. There, Browder said, Mulligan intentionally had run his vehicle into a storage unit building.

As deputies attempted to arrest him, Mulligan reportedly fought against them. Browder described him as "very combative."

When the fracas broke out, deputies called for more help from the Evergreen Fire Department and Montana Highway Patrol.

He eventually was brought under control by the one-time use of a Taser stun gun. Browder said early reports that the man had been "Tased" four times were inaccurate.

Browder said the investigation is continuing into why Mulligan ran into the storage unit initially, but said it had been reported that there was an altercation beforehand.

The sergeant also said the department is looking into whether drugs or alcohol were a contributing factor.
